Planted:

* Three zucchini seedlings - front yard
* Five cucumber seedlings (RRG) on round wire trellis - Bed 3
* Eight Warrigal Greens seedlings - Bed 8

Sunday 18/10/09

Planted out:

* Vanilla vine, underneath Starfruit (to use as support);

* Chinese Water Chestnuts into water bowl x ~10 corms. Am trying a mix of compost and slow release fertiliser this year after the manure made the water foul & smelly last year. I also found some tiny Duck Potatoes in with the water chestnuts which looked as though they were sprouting, so stuck them in too at the front - there were about 6 very small ones;

* Pumpkin, Butternut x 4, front yard;

* Marigolds (girls' new flower bed);
* Gazanias (moved to girl's flower bed);

* Tea camellias x 6 to front yard. Three were transplanted + three (one transplanted and two potted) are most likely dead and another looks to be 90% dead but may be shooting. If the dead-ish ones don't re-shoot they will be replaced.


Potted on:

* Cape Gooseberries, Golden Nugget x 6.


Sowed seeds:

* Rockmelon, Minnesota Midget (Diggers seeds) - front yard;
* Watermelon, Golden Midget (DS) - front yard;
* Warrigal Greens (DS) x 2 - soaked overnight before sowing;
* Fenugreek (Willowbrook Cottage) - soaked overnight;
* Lettuce, Flame (DS);
* Lettuce, Baby Cos (DS organic);
* Lettuce, Buttercrunch (Eden Seeds);
* Peanut, Virginia (DS) x 2 pots (5 in each), plus random sowings in sweet potato bed^
^Slow germination advised on packet, plus poor germination rates (50%).



Applied:

* Weed tea to all edibles, except coffee bushes (because I ran out);
* Boiling water to weeds in paved pathways.


Maintenance:

* Tied wire over the kiwi trellis to support the growing kiwi vines & passionfruit;
* Tied wire over the grape arbour;
* Dug over new garden bed in front yard with the compost;
* Mowed lawns and did edges with shovel;
* Removed grass and made new flower bed at front door.

* Removed black plastic and pallets from future medicinal herb garden area in front yard and cut back grass from edges;
* Had 2 m³ of compost delivered from Paynes;
* Painted bottom of front fence behind new garden bed;
* Removed old palm fronds from backyard for Council Green Waste collection this week;
* Moved compost to new garden bed in front yard.

Sunday 20/09/09

Planted:

* 9 x Lebanese cucumbers (end Bed 2 and end Dog Leg bed under arch).


Removed:

* Bolting Asian greens (including all Chinese celery bar one for seed);
* Most of the red mustard.


Fertilised:

* Applied diluted worm wee to vegie beds.


Maintenance:

* Weeded gravel.

Monday 31/08/09

Observed:

* Potatoes in bag 2 are up;
* Jalapeno Chillies are up;
* Three luffa (loofahs) are up;
* One more chervil is up, the other one succumbed to damping off;
* The Cape Gooseberries are starting to emerge;
* The Chinese cabbage are bolting before forming a head.

Wednesday 26/08/09

Observed:

* Basil, eggplant and (one) chervil are up;
* Potatoes in Bag 1 are up;
* Half of the fenugreek and cucumber seedlings were burnt off in the hot winds yesterday, need to resow another punnet of cukes at least.

Thursday 20/08/09

Observed:

* Fenugreek is up (4 days germination).
* Hood pear has leaves now and looks like it is finishing flowering whereas the Flordahome pear hasn't even begun to bud up, let alone flower. They are supposed to be cross-pollination partners?
